random thoughts.

The air conditioning in our apartment has been off for a week. The evenings have turned cool, and the tops of the trees outside our apartment window have lost the vibrant shades of green they once held. Alas, to everything there is a season. It is simply unfortunate that the summer is a season that is often so short. While fall is indeed most delightful, I am not sure I'm ready to trade in the warm evening rays for earlier sunsets quite yet.

Although fall is just around the corner, it feels different this year. Perhaps it's due to the fact that we are not moving anywhere, or that school is not starting up again. Or perhaps house hunting and a baby on the way have contributed to this feeling of strangeness. It's really hard to say. At this point, the 'restful fall' is shaping up to be a busy one - but in spite of commitments that vie for time I am still looking forward to the mental break, and freedom from the stress of reading and papers.

Although the last days of scholastic life were hectic, there have been more than assignments in the past weeks. Kendall and I celebrated our 2nd anniversary on the 20th. We went out for a delightful Mongolian grill supper, and had a good time being reflective - evaluating our relationship over the past year, what's worked, what needs work, and where we want to grow in the year to come. It is delightful to realize that marriage gets increasingly more wonderful as time goes on. We also look forward to our celebratory trip to Fargo in October, where we will take in a White Stripes/Cold War Kids concert in 'honor' of our anniversary.

The summer has been full. With weddings, a trip home, and another wedding Kendall is going to in Ontario this coming weekend. Kendall has played ultimate frisbee and slow-pitch all summer, and both of his final tournaments fell on the same weekend. I finally made it out to one of his baseball games, and got to capture some memories.

The team (or most of it)

And so now, without papers to write and books to read, I am back to work full time at my job. I am blessed by the flexibility and favor my employers have had with me, and although I look forward to staying home in a few months, I have no complaints about being where I'm at. Kendall continues to enjoy life at the Wheat Board, and soon will have finished his first year with them. We feel incredibly grateful for the relationships we have been able to build at our jobs, and for the enjoyment they bring.

Anyway, this is getting long. For those of you who are interested, here are the latest shots of the ever-growing belly. I continue to be amazed and humbled at the way in which this new life grows. What a marvelous privilege to be the host for this new person.

27 Weeks and growing.
